Understanding Interior Design Pricing

Designers work in many different ways, and each pricing structure serves different project types and client needs. Here are a few examples — and why we’ve chosen a different path.

  • Commission-based pricing means a designer adds a percentage fee — usually 20–25% — on top of what furniture, decor, materials, and services cost.

With commission-based pricing, the more you spend, the more you pay in design fees.

  • Hourly rate-based pricing means you pay the designer for the time they spend working on your project — just like a lawyer or consultant.

The rate is usually between $50–$500 per hour, depending on the designer’s experience and location.

With hourly pricing, the final cost depends on how long the project takes — which can be hard to predict upfront. And typically the cost of furnishings, materials, or contractor services are billed separately and can add significantly to the overall cost.

  • Square footage-based pricing means the designer charges a set fee based on the size of your space.

The rate can vary greatly, usually between $5–$15 per square foot.

This pricing model is straightforward and often used for full-home or large-scale projects. It gives clients a clear idea of total design costs based on the size of the space — but it may not reflect how complex or custom a project is. And the cost of furnishings, materials, or contractor services are billed separately.

  • At Tactile Haus Interiors, we’ve chosen a flat rate model because it aligns with how we like to work — collaboratively, intentionally, and with full transparency.

You’ll pay a one-time, all-inclusive design fee. There are no hidden markups, no commissions, and no hourly billing. Just one clear investment, from start to finish.

Why It Feels Right for Us

Our work is about crafting spaces that feel collected, connected, and deeply personal — where every texture, tone, and object has meaning. Flat rate pricing supports that process by removing distractions and letting us focus on what matters most—the feel, the flow, and the soul of your home.

This approach allows us to focus entirely on crafting a space that feels layered, soulful, and deeply personal — not on how much, or how little, you spend. It’s honest, clear, and built to support the kind of work we love to do: thoughtful, timeless interiors with meaning in every detail.
